Bent Oak Quail Farm has been raising quail for about 5 years. Initially, I raised Bobwhite quail to release into the wild. And I continue to raise some birds for release into the wild.
Over the last couple years I have begun to raise Gambel's quail and have developed a breeding stock from several different strains of birds. Two years ago was the first year for me to sell Gambel eggs and raise Gambel chicks from my own eggs.
I think Gambel's quail/Gambel quail are one of the most beautiful quail. They are named after William Gambel, a naturalist and explorer that discovered the bird. They are typically found in New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah and Texas.
Gambel quail prefer to hide in underbrush. And believe me, they are clever at hiding. They'd rather run than fly if unexpectedly flushed. However, once a safe distance has been breached, Gambel quail become powerful fliers capable of covering short distances very quickly.
Gambel quail stay on the ground to feed during the day. They prefer to eat flowers, fruits and seeds. My group really likes lettuce. At night they prefer to roost in trees or bushes.
Another characteristic of Gambel's that worthy to note is the high degree of wildness they seem to maintain. I've had some of my birds for a couple years and they are still as wild acting as they were the day they arrived.
The main purpose for this website is to promote my Gambel quail egg business. I sell adults, when available, as well
